Who can participate in Kids for Kaga Exchanges?
The exchange is open to students (ages 13-18) from Dundas and the surrounding area.
Who runs the programme?
Kids for Kaga is a grassroots community programme run by volunteers. Most of the volunteers are students and families who are current or past participants of the exchange. The programme originally started under the town of Dundas, but since the amalgamation with Hamilton is now part of the Hamilton Mundailization Committee.
When do the Kids for Kaga exchanges occur?
The exchanges happen on a 3 year cycle. The next exchange to Kaga is planned for summer 2020.
Will my child be supervised?
Students will be travelling to Japan with chaperones from Canada, usually parents of the particiapnts. The number is dependent on the number of students on the trip.
We don't know any Japanese? Can we still join?
Knowledge of Japanese is not necessary. The aim of Kids for Kaga is one of cultural exchange where participants will teach and learn from each other. Also, prior to departure students will have the opportunity to take part in orientation sessions which will include some basic Japanese language and customs.
Where will they stay?
While in Kaga, students will stay with their host families. These families are usually current or past participants in the exchange programme.
After their stay in Kaga, students and their Canadian chaperones will continue on to experience famous sites and cities in Japan. Please check the sample itinerary page for more details on places our students have travelled to.
