Great meeting last night!!! We now have confirmed dates and numbers for this summer's exchange. After a brief tussle about which family would have rights over the Tuna, we were able to find places for all of our Japanese students (with some to spare!).
We've also started slotting in the activities. There are still a few we need to pencil in, but we're on track for a great exchange. See you in May! We had a good turnout for our meeting tonight! Since our students have come back, we've started planning for summer 2015 for when students from Japan are expected to come for their visit. A lot of excitement going over which of our new friends will be joining us this summer.
We went over options for our welcome and farewell ceremonies, and of course all the activities in between! One of my friends just shared this on his wall...just in case anyone is worried about where you're going
http://blog.gaijinpot.com/broken-japanese-bicycle-bell/ During our past few meetings, we've been trying to get the participants to brainstorm ideas on what they would like to see on their exchange. Well, here are a few links to give you a few more ideas from Nikkei Voice. Lots of students and planning tonight!
First, the days for our trip have been changed. We will now be leaving for Kaga on July 24th and leave August 12th (arrive in Toronto on August 13th). Next meeting, we'll try to get a better idea of our itinerary for each city. To help with bookings, we need all participants to commit to the by February 28th! This means forms and $100 deposit submitted! Fundraisers: Our April dinner will have to be postponed. Also, to anyone that still owes money for chocolate, please get your money in as soon as possible. Michelle paid the chocolate supplier out of her own pocket, and we need to pay her back! A very productive meeting tonight. We talked about possible timing and cost for our trip, planning, uniforms and fundraisers.
Uniforms: We've decided to go with white polo shirts for students to wear during our more formal events in Japan...perhaps with a simple logo Planning: students are asked to come to the next meeting with at least 2 potential things they'd like to see/do for each of our cities Fundraisers: Our Valentine's Day event will be moved to April. We discussed the potential costs for participants. A pretty productive meeting tonight! Started off with another Japanese lesson for our participants. We took a look at the basic vowel sounds used in Japanese, how to pronounce and write them in hiragana. Then, we discussed the changes for the dates of our future exchanges. Another agenda item was fundraising. We will be looking into the possibility of holding a sushi/Japanese culture dinner in the fall and holdin
Everything is feeling new today! Kids for Kaga had their first meeting today with students and their families that we met during the Dundas Cactus Festival. We're also trying out a new meeting location at the Lion's Club. Lots of information and questions about the programme and the participants tonight.
Next meeting is tentatively set for October 15th at 630pm! |
